Other types of glaucoma

1: Normal-Tension glaucoma
2: Secondary glaucoma
3: Narrow-angled eye

1: Normal-Tension glaucoma

@The patients of this disease have visual field loss although their intraocular pressure is normal. For the normal-tension glaucoma patient, normal pressure is too high for their optic nerve. Therefore, the major aim of the therapy is to reduce the pressure low enough for the patient. Recently, an ocular blood circulation defect has often been discussed in glaucoma research groups and they point out that the improvement of the ocular blood circulation by medication prevents visual field loss.

2: Secondary glaucoma

This type of the glaucoma often develops after eye injury or ocular inflammation and in most cases the outflow facility of the aqueous humor of the eye is damaged. The therapeutic goal of curing the glaucoma is mostly the same as the chronic glaucoma.

3: Narrow-angled eye

The narrow-angled eye is usually small and hyperopic and this type of eye often suffers from the acute angle-closure glaucoma. Laser therapy is recommended to prevent damage when the grade of the narrowing is quite harmful to the patient. This type of angle is often can be seen in the Asians, Afro-Americans and Eskimos. In the Caucassians, narrow-angled eye is relatively rare compared with the above races.
